Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Plain Landscape with a Cradle
"Plain Landscape with a Cradle" is a portrait of an alcoholic consistently and consciously ruining his own life. The main character, a lonely man in his sixties, from a small village in Masuria, submits to the death drive, a bustling force of ruthless and overpowering nature. Thanks to powerful images, lack of narrator's commentary, unique ambience and intimacy between the author and his character, the film resists the temptation of passing gratuitous moral judgements.

A Piece of Summer
It is the last days of the summer holidays. A grandfather, who works in Bieszczady Mountains, awaits the arrival of his grandson. Surrounded by wild nature they try to reach an understanding of each other. The camera keenly observes, with slow and subtle pace, a developing relationship to one another and to the world that envelopes them.

Two Hearts
The camera observes young couples during the production of their wedding videos.

North from Calabria
The film is an attempt to create a place – a town, where living is easy. Where people know each other, tolerate their faults, meet each other to talk and just be together. Making of this film was a kind of a happening. Actors and outside people moved into a small Silesian town and along with its inhabitants they were organizing a big fest. In a confined space of market and a few small streets, working, talking and spending time together has dominated life of Chełmsko Śląskie. For one summer month Chełmsko has become a decoration in the film about an ideal town.

The End of the World
A story of a remote village, almost completely abandoned. All the youth have left, looking for a better life in the city. Only a few village elders have remained, and they spend their days waiting for a mobile cart to come along and sell bread and wares - their only contact with the outside world.

Without sight
After many years Mariusz visits his old college friend. Kasia leads a peaceful life living in a forester’s cottage, painting paintings, raising her daughter and meeting with friends. For Mariusz it is another occasion to get to know new places and people, and for Kasia’s friends it is a first closer encounter with a person with no sight. Everyone tries in their own way to discover and understand their guest’s invisible world. Evening barbecue conversations and surprises prepared by the boys prove conducive to getting to know each other. Mariusz falls under the spell of the idyllic atmosphere and begins to uncover many secrets of his life. After a few days of his stay, the world of a blind person becomes closer to them all.

Heaven
38-year-old Robert is happy because he is very ill. For him it's a blessing. Finally, he has time to do what he always wanted. Painting changed his life completely. Each day for him is only about painting another icon. Nothing else matters.

Reception
One building, many young, „unique” people. They are sending strange rituals away in dimly lit corridors of one stately istitution. They are waiting for their five minutes. These five minutes can change their lives. Who are they and what are they doing here?

Freestyle Life
Freestyle life is a story of the art of putting up a fight when the game involves the most competitive rivals - ourselves. Resistance to determinism leads towards stubborn challenges with oneselves, resulting in consecutive duels. A TV screen surface, which is precisely what keeps a viewer from reality, resembles the surface of water that separates swimmers from their disability.
