Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Facing the Day
A group of convicts from Lepoglava took part in a prison theatre-production based on W. Shakespeare's «Midsummer Night's Dream». The production was the result of improvisations on prison life. In the beginning, it was meant to be performed inside the prison, but it exceeded its primary purpose of a prison workshop and was shown in several Croatian theatres. How to face the day? How to fulfil the emptiness of life? And is it possible to avoid the gloomy everyday life? There is no society or a system, in any culture, that doesn’t – after all – put its members into a defined context of its borders, into its routine. Some try to defy this through criminal. They search for their path on the other side of the law; they resist the system by breaking the rules of society - in this way trying to break out of the limitations that the environment they grew up in is offering. However wrong – both in moral and legal way – this is their attempt to fulfil their lives. But – isn’t this also a system with its own gloomy everyday life with its own routine, they tried so hard to escape from…

Bad Blue Boys
This is a film about the impossibility of Croatian war veterans to socialise into today Croatian society, due to the fact that in Croatia - a country in transition in which the unscrupulous capitalism rules, only a few understand their illness and their needs. The story is about a 35 year old man, married, with three children. He joined the Croatian Army at the very beginning of the war and was not discharged until the very end. He is now unemployed, lives in Zagreb with his family and is trying to live like other people, but….. This film is conceived as his intimate confession.
