www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Dancing for the Camera
Film about European Sword Dances based on unique nitrate film shot by František Pospíšil in the 1920s, when European documentary filming came into its own. It includes material from Croatia to Britain - some of the earliest 'field recording' on film. This forms the basis to look at sword dances across Europe where the archive material locks in with present-day reality. Where did these dances originate? What do they mean? And alongside this there's František Pospíšil, a remarkable man with a mission. A musical detective story with a historical and geographical perspective...

Magic Flute Second Time
When the Magic Flute victoriously roamed through European opera houses after the death of its creator, J.W. Goethe decided to write a libretto of the second part of the opera. Since he did not find any composer of Mozart`s greatness in his time, the libretto remained uncomposed. The situation changed in 2005 when a newly reconstructed theatre from Mozart`s time opened in Brno, with an opera novelty on Goethe`s text. The music was written by a leading Czech minimalist composer Vít Zouhar, direction and artistic concept are from the Rocc workshop...

Grassroots: Prague Spring
In the late 1960s, Czechoslovaks trusted the communists and the Soviets. This is a documentary about a betrayal and its consequences which last to this day and split up the society.

Dalibor Chatrný: Drawn by the World
Untiring experimentator with soul of child – this is one of father Czech modernism past Second World War – Dalibor Chatrný. He is a conceptual artist in a wide sense of this word. He is an artist who gets to the very basic problems, to the phenomenon of drawing itself or to elements, nature phenomena, mirroring, magnetism etc. He can use these various elements as a new type of art message. He has saved for himself till today an enchantment by new and new stimuli and an effort to verify everything that occurs to him, to experiment. Today we often make this subordinate to a concept or idea, which we bring about first and then, retroactively, we get at it. But he reacts directly by an experiment.

A Hundred Broms

Maestro
Ivo Vania Psota was leading personality of the pre-war and war Czechoslovak dance. During years he became the solo dancer and choreographer od the famous international ballet company Original Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, performed with Američan Ballet Theatre and created the ballet pieces in Southern America. His historical achievement was the world premiere of the most famous ballet of 20th century – Prokofiev´s Romeo and Juliet. The film is a portrait of extraordinary artist in difficult times.

Janáček by Mackerras
In September 2009 will happen a historical musical event in Brno. At a special concert by Brno Philharmonics in Wannieck Gallery will be introduced the magnificent Janáček´s master piece, Glagolitic Mass. The conductor Sir Charles Mackerras is one of the leading personalities of world-wide conducting and also the most important expert od Janáček´s music. He was able to achieve popularity for his music in Great Brittain and otherwhere. Born in Australia, studied with Vaclav Talich in Prague in 1947 and after meeting with Janáček´s music he became the expert and also Czech language speaker. The film tries to catch up the athmosphere of the finale of his career and at one of his probably last concerts in Brno.
