Uprooted - Children's Perspectives on Europe's Repatriation Policies
In October 2010, the chancellor Angela Merkel claimed that attempts to build a multicultural society in Germany had "utterly failed". From the perspective of children like Anita, Sedat and Nasmija, born and raised in Germany by parents who had fled the war-torn Kosovo at the beginning of the 1990's, the statement makes no sense. For them, there is no question about their nationality: they are German. Fifteen months ago, Sedat and Nasmija were deported from Germany. They are now bound to bear the inhuman conditions of a refugee camp in Kosovo...
Marion Kurucz is a French-Hungarian film producer at the Romedia Foundation. After starting out as a lawyer in 2005, she got involved in film production and produced all Romedia’s films and video projects since 2007. The Mundi Romani – the World through Roma Eyes series was broadcast monthly between 2007 and 2011 (forty-two episodes shot in twenty-eight countries) and won recognition worldwide for its innovative quality, cinematography and the untold stories the films uncovered. In 2010, the Mundi Romani series was awarded the UNESCO Prize for the Rapprochement of Cultures. Awards and nominations at the Monte Carlo Television Festival, the International Festival of Audiovisual Programmes (FIPA), the CIVIS Prize, etc., led to the creation of independent media campaigns, such as the “I’m a Roma Woman” campaign, and film projects, such as Uprooted (2011), nominated at the 8th Aljazeera International Documentary Film Festival, and the upcoming documentary drama, 3Brothers.
