Merzuga - Threshold of the Sahara
Merzuga is a tiny village in Morocco on the border of desert and civilization. South of Merzuga you will find only endless dry oases, sand-filled abandoned earthen houses, and endless dunes. The residents of Merzuga come into daily contact with the Sahara. They live in isolation, but they are not cut off from the rest of the world. Life trickles slowly here: it's hot; the sand is pleasantly soft inside your shoes. The people enjoy the shade in their thousand year-old houses, bask in the amazing sunshine, and ride their camels deep into the desert. The people in the film tell their own stories about the Sahara and the camels, about what happens-- when nothing happens; what they do when the sandstorms rage and the wind blows boredom into the houses.
