Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Mitić Boris

Goodbye, How Are You?
Introducing Serbian satirical aphorisms, the smart kind of humour which enraged Tito and the communists, ridiculed Milošević and the nationalists and soothed our way through transition and the Eurocrats. Like it or not, you are also in there.

Pretty Dyana
An intimate look at Gypsy refugees in a Belgrade suburb who make a living by transforming Citroën’s classic 2cv and Dyana cars into Mad Max-like recycling vehicles, which they use to collect cardboard, bottles and scrap metal. These modern horses are much more efficient than the cart-pushing competition, but even more important -- they also mean freedom, hope and style for their crafty owners.

Unmik Titanik
The story of 100 people trapped inside one building for more than 4 years. The story of yet another failed UN mission: Kosovo.

In Praise of Nothing
“In Praise of Nothing” is a documentary parable in which Nothing, personified in stylish voiceover and illustrated by 7 top cinematographers from 7 parts of the world, exposes the follies, foibles and failings of our society.

Boris Mitić (born 1977 in Leskovac, southern Serbia.) worked as a professional journalist when he decided to buy a camera and film his first film Pretty Dyana on his own, using a home computer for production. The film, describing the life of the Roma in the outskirts of Belgrade through a story of a Citroën car model which they use to collect recyclable garbage for a living, became popular at festivals (over 60 in total) and received 11 awards. He also directed UNMIK Titanik, a documentary about 100 people who couldn't leave their UN-protected building for over four years. His third film, Good Bye, How Are You? aka Aphocalypse Now!, which is about the phenomenon of Serbian satirical aphorisms, premiered in 2009 and has already received severel festival awards (e.g. DOCSDF Mexico City). Mitić encourages copyleft distribution of his films. He has been starting with new 5-year doc project about Nothing.
