Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Motyčka Roman

From Dan to Dama
Aluminum pipes or a connection of a children’s hockey stick and a hanger, laundry drier and tens of other objects that can be turned into musical instruments. Dan Dlouhý, the head of the DAMA DAMA music band, shows how one can play nearly anything. He has always beeninterested in the drums, but he wanted to play it differently. He studied nuclear physics, but has always made living with music. A portrait ofa musician is mixed with video-like samples of his songs. These, too, give us the opportunity to learn more of this unconventional body that balances somewhere among the contemporary classical music, rock and ethno. This experimental band plays own songs as well as songsof Czech famous authors using traditional as well as original and hand made percussions. The band was founded in May 1990 and consistsof four people who play in their concerts and multimedia shows also the traditional as well as a dissembled piano, further special wind andstring instruments as well as their own bodies. The instrument range consists, however, mainly of numerous percussions, Dan Dlouhý aloneowns nearly a thousand. Let us remind that in 1994, the orchestra participated in music to the Michálek’s film America.
