Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Nica Aurelian

The World According to Ion B.
Ion B. is a 62 year-old homeless man. His bed is a filthy foam mattress at the bottom of a garbage chute. Ion sorts through the daily household garbage of the block, avidly reading the books, magazines and newspapers he finds. Since the 70s he has been creating collages from them that he calls "my films".

Digging for Life
The only living inhabitants of a cemetery are the gravediggers. Be it winter, spring, summer or fall - the preoccupations of the diggers always remain the same. They dig and bury. They are immune to tears and lamentation. They seem to lack fear and sensibility. The only living "ghost" at “Doina” Cemetery is Ms. Eleonora. She's been preparing and making arrangements for her funeral for 10 years now, although she’s only 60, healthy and sober. This preoccupation is almost an obsession.

Visiting Room
"Visiting Room" follows the stories of several prisoners from different penitentiaries across the country, who have found their life partner during their sentence time. The one is either a person from outside, or, like them,a person who is serving time in prison. Our intention was to talk to the people in such a special situation of being deprived of freedom, and to whom love becomes a substitute for freedom and maybe their only hope for a better future.
