Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

National Park
In the national park Djerdap there is a village Petrovo selo, the place where the directors mother was born. Now it's an almost abandoned village and there is a mass grave of Albanians, 300 km far from Kosovo. The national park has become the symbol of the society that hides the dark side of its past. The director and his mother will go back to her home after a long time. It's a road documentary about travelling both to the beautiful landscapes of one's childhood and to the dark catacombs of the recent war.

The Caviar Connection
The Caviar Connection is a fishing roulette about the Rat brothers, hunting unsuccesfully for the BIG fish, which will bring them easy money to leave their small village in Serbia. And not for just any fish. They dream of finding a fat sturgeon in their nets, whose eggs are literally worth their weight in gold. The film follows the two brothers during the painful awakening after yet another late and inebriated night, the practised preparation of the boat and nets, the quarrels with other fishermen about fishing territories, the disappointing catch, if there is one. The drudgery is occasionally interrupted by a bingo drive in the dirty village centre, where people fill in the numbers while a porn movie plays in the background; or by death, which is never far away...; or by an absurdist local court session about territories, which leaves unclear who is the witness, accused or plaintiff. A fishing ban enforced by the European Union eventually causes a trail-blazing change...

The Undertaker
“Drnda Internacional” is a large international private firm of undertakers and the undisputed No. 1 repatriator of deceased migrant workers from all over Europe. With professional calm and a talent for improvisation Drnada manages to keep his promise, that within 48 hours of the call-out at the latest, a Drnda hearse will be outside the front door, anywhere in Europe, complete with choice of coffin, burial objects and all the official papers needed for the transfer abroad. On the Drnda’s day-to-day business the expression “migrant workers route” takes on it’s whole, double meaning and that Drnda’s business becomes a metaphor for the migrant workers’ lost dream of coming home.
