Dino Osmanovic was born on the 1st July 1985 in Doboj, a small town in the north of Bosnia. There
he lived with his family until 1992 when he escaped from the war to Austria, where he started visiting
school. After he finished the primary school he visited a technical school with the focus on
telecommunications. After he completed his diploma he started working at TRIDONIC ATCO for one
year as an electronic developer. During this year he made his first movie: A snowboard movie for the
treetop crew witch was selected for the national final of the Filmup Festival. During this first attempt
he discovered his passion about filmmaking. He decided to apply for MultiMediaArt studies, started
many experiments with the camera and prepared the application for the University of Applied Studies
in Salzburg. After he was accepted for this studies he moved to Salzburg and began studying in the
video department. During the first time of his studies he created a few experimental short films.
Then, in the summer 2007 he made an internship at Dropping Knowledge in Berlin. This is an NGO
which collects, transforms and spreads knowledge about global matters through digital media. In this
time he created some short documentaries about the situation and the problems of the society in
Berlin. Finally he learned that asking the right questions in the documentaries can produce a lot of
knowledge and effect. Finally he discovered his passion in this subject and decided to work more on
documentary projects. He started to collect experience and knowledge in various aspects of film
making. So he took part in several film projects at the University as director or cameraman during the
last years of his studies. Some of his own projects where shown at several film festivals (Konstanzer
Kurzfilmspiele, No Budget Media Art Festival, Salzburger Kulturtage, Filmjahrbuch Salzburg, Red
Sparta Dancefilm Festival Linz beyond others). Last summer he decided to take part at the
production of a professional film during an internship for the production company Deblokada in
Sarajevo which was producing the movie “On the path” by Jasmila Zbanic. There he was working in
the lighting department. After that he took part in the Erasmus programme and studied at the FAMU
film school in Prague where he developed his theoretical knowledge in filmmaking.
Currently he is in his last semester of his studies. Since the beginning of the year 2008 he is working
on his Bachelor thesis about the Digital Divide which will be finished this summer. At the same time
he is developing the documentary script about the same issue.
In addition he is currently working on his Bachelor film project – a visualization of the short story
“The Connection” by the Russian surrealistic writer Daniil Charms.
