Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Divorce Albanian Style
This is a story about love and separation, about families forcibly separated by the totalitarian regime of Enver Hodja - the longest-serving European dictator of the 20th century. Only because their wives were foreigners …

Whose Is This Song?
This is a film about a song and the transformations it underwent on its travels along the roads of the Balcans: in the different countries it has different faces and exists as a love song, a military march meant to scare the enemy off, a Muslim religious song, a revolutionary song, an anthem of the right nationalists, etc.

The Mayor
Тhe film centers around eng. Ivan Ivanov, the longest ruling mayor of Sofia in the XX century – 10 years, 3 months and 15 days. He was convicted as a “German spy” for “carrying out a pro-Nazi policy” and sentenced to death by the People’s Court. Later his penalty was changed into a life-sentence. Before 1944 he was under surveillance because he was suspected of being close with the communists. Some of the projects that he carried out as a mayor include the first urban planning of Sofia, the creation of “Big Sofia” by incorporating neighboring villages, the building of the Rila water-main and Iskar dam. The Mayor is a tribute to this extraordinary man and a story of the difficult and controversial time in which he lived and worked.
