The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

NING - Story of the Lost Girlfriend
Czech traveller Pavel Zvolánek made an emotional documentary about the search for his Thai girlfriend just after the tsunami in 2004.

born 1964 In 1988, I graduated at the film and television department of the School of Journalism at the Charles University in Praha with a diploma thesis on “The Relationship of Film Sound and Picture”. 1987 Film “Poets’ Pageant”, won 2nd prize at the festival of non-commercial films “Brno 16” 1988-1990 Worked as the film and cultural editor of the Mladá Fronta daily 1990-1995 Worked as the film and music editor of the Reflex magazine 1995-1997 Produced and directed news features for the private TV station Nova Documents and film reports: As a director and a cameraman, I shot from 1998 to 1999 in Kosovo, Palestine, and Chechnia (won 1st and 2nd prizes in UNESCO competition), I made a document on a festival of Jewish culture, a document on the underground music festival “The Steel Tulip” and a document on a music festival in Chicago. In 1998 and 1999, I contributed to the alternative music TV program “Šedesátka”. I authored music videos, among others “Barma” for the band “Pod Černý Vrch” which won the non-commercial “Šedesátka” count down in 1998, “Klíče od hospod” for the band “České Srdce” which won the commercial hit chart “Eso” in 2000. From 1998 to 2000, I traveled in France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Britain, Ireland and the Balkan countries and collected material on European magic cults, contributions to the TV program “Objektiv”. In 1998, I made a full-length portrait of the Bulgarian financier Martin Zajmov and the film was awarded as the best documentary on Bulgarian TV.
