Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

My Neighbour Tanja
The initial bad luck of the 57 years old Tanja Kursar, who was born an illegitimate child, has left a permanent mark on her life. Her grandfather could not accept her existence for a long time. She'd met her real father twice in her whole life. Her distraught step father molested her and her husband cheated on her. She'd lived through it all, raised two children all by herself, found a job, found strength to finish her school, even acted in a few movies. And today, stronger than ever, she is courageously continuing in living her life.

Got Any Money?
Mersiha is a joyful, intelligent and ambitious girl. And yet, all that, including the fact that she has passed the admissions test, is not enough to make her wish come true and enter a college.

Invisible Galleries
This film takes us for a short walk through Zagreb, to the locations where the art climate in Croatia became more radical between the 1970s and 1990s. Of six former galleries/institutions that, in the author’s opinion, shaped up the modern artistic practice in Croatia, only the Modern Art Museum and the Gallery of Extended Media still exist, having moved to new locations.

The Way Out
The film "The Way Out" is an experimental film based on a documentary experience. It centres on a lengthy conversation with Mrs. Gabrijela, who has recently lost someone close to her, making her emotions exposed and available to us. On the other hand, the author's intervention is evident, constant and unavoidable. Therefore, "The Way Out" is probably the only place where the protagonist and the author(s) can experience emotions imposed on them: the provoked subconscience, alternating feelings of anxiousness and pleasant remembrance of a previous life... "The Way Out" for them literally is the only way out.

Wasteland
‘Wasteland’ refers to a vast, flat heath in Hungary. This is not arable land; it serves for open-air cattle breeding, horse breeding and pig farming. Wastelands are forms of organised, planned, collective housing, typical of Hungary, Slavonia and Baranja, built in the 1700s and 1800s on vast plains of Slavonia owned by wealthy landowners. Wastelands have always been inhabited by landless people, immigrants, restless spirits and vagrants, but there were those who remained in the wastelands for generations. This film was made by hand camera and consists entirely of personal scenes. The main ‘character’ in the film is light. The light reveals characters and objects, does not pay particular attention to frame composition and use of artificial light. At the same time, filming the aberration, sound diffusion (propagation) was also filmed. And, most importantly, silence, because silence on the wasteland, on that ‘island’ without a visible borderline between heaven and earth, in that prison without boundaries, is louder than any urban noise.
