Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Skalski Maciej

I was born in 1950 in Poland. I graduated from The Main School of Trade in Warsaw with a master’s degree in 1975. In 1978, after completing my diploma course at The Łodz Film School, I obtained my first professional position assistant with Andrzej Wajda’s production team. During the first few years I specialised in coproductions and providing services for foreign film companies (American, German, British, French etc) In 1984, I joined Krzysztof Zanussi’s production team. Recently I worked with Mr Zanussi for several years as production assistant and as production manager. In 1990 I established a private company in partnership with Mr Sławomir Idziak – one of Poland’s foremost Directors of Photography and who is also establishing a reputation as a Director. We have produced a Polish-German feature film entitled „ENAK”. After that in 1992 I was involved as the production manager II in Steven Spielberg’s „Schindler’s list”. Then I’ve worked in my company MSFilms as the producer of many international coproductions: - Polish-German film „Polski Crash” by Kaspar Heidelbach. - Finnish-French-Polish film „Leningrad cowboys meet Moses” directed by Aki Kaurismaki. - Polish-Austrian „Ostwaerts” by Olivier Hirschbiegel. - Polish-South Korean film „Taekwondo” directed by Moon Seung Wook. - French-Polish film „L’homme des Foules” by John Lvov. 1998-2001 I took a position in Canal+ as the Film Production Adviser. I was involved in investing money in Polish filmproductions. In 2002 I produced tv sitcom „King of suburbs” for Polish privat television TVN.
