Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Noosfera
True love is possible. This is what Romanian sociology professor Nicolae Dumitru preaches to his students. But how does one reach it? The professor has developed his own theory, based on scientific research and on his predictions for the future. However, in his private life, things often took a different direction and his theory has not always been useful. Every failure in his marriages affected also the size of his apartment which got smaller and smaller with each divorce. When he finally encounters true love, his theory seems to come true… until life takes its own course again. “Noosfera” is a portrait of a man who never gave up and never ceases to search for perfect love and understanding.

Akhmeteli Street No. 4
The director Artchil Khetagouri grew up in the Akhmeteli Street no. 4, but he has left his country more than ten years ago. With a camera in the hand he goes back to his hometown. He captures the daily lives of his former neighbors, the surprises that make them happy, but also their hidden loneliness. Although there is not much hope for a better tomorrow, the neighbors are keeping their humor and simplicity. Through the warm and intimate portraits of the people living in "Akhmeteli 4", the film becomes a larger image of life in nowadays Georgia.

The Bridge over the Tisa river
A bridge that has been destroyed during the Second World War is being rebuilt. The bridge over the Tisa river was built during the Austrian-Hungarian empire and linked two towns: Sighet and Solotvina. Now, one town is in the Ukraine and the other in Romania and nobody crosses the new bridge.

Village of Socks
In the small village Viscri, in the middle of Transylvania (Romania), all women are knitting socks. A German, Harald Riese, sells the socks to Germany, to Austria and to other countries. And he also enjoys living in Viscri. He teaches to Viscri-children German, he plays piano and sings about the beauty of the Romanian language and last but not least, he organizes the sock-export to Western Europe. Slowly by slowly all the village became a sock-factory. This documentary is a portrait of a very special village, isolated in a beautiful landscape but still full of life.

Quarters of Balchik
In the oriental town of Balchik on the Black Sea shore live Turks, Tatars, Bulgarians and Roma in four different quarters. But Balchik will be soon completely changed. Old buildings are pulled down and an entire quarter will be demolished. The town is transformed into luxury sea resort and its population is overlooked.
