"In the cargo compartment of an airplane we will come back home."This Turkish saying describes the situation of Muslim migrants who came to Austria 40 years ago as so called "guestworkers." Today the Muslim Religious Community is the second largest religious community in Austria and yet, without a cemetery of its own. After forty years of immigration, death became a part of their integration in Europe. The documentary describes the disruption between old and new homeland as well as the moral conflict between social integration and cultural identity.
God Has a Hard Time with Us
In a small town in eastern Bosnia, a group of EUFOR soldiers are fighting with humanitarian problems. In December 2004 European Union launched a military operation in Bosnia-Herzegovina called Althea. Since then EUFOR troops from 27 European countries have been stationed in Bosnia. Their task is to keep in touch with local population and to provide security. But here are more humanitarian problems to be solved then military ones. The documentary shows a group of EUFOR Soldiers from Austria fighting with everyday problems in a small town in eastern Bosnia. In a slum area in Chennai, a group of women are taking driving lessons in order to become auto rickshaw drivers – a very unusual profession in the traditional South India. Besides striving for financial independence they are making the first step towards the emancipation of Indian women. What can European women learn from them? Murgama is a 32 year old widow and one of the first auto-rickshaw drivers in Chennai. Lavinia is a dance teacher from Europe living and working in India. The documentary will show the everyday struggle of the two women who met in the driving school.
