Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Ultimum Refugium
"Ultimum refugium" means “the last refuge” where we can hide when conditions are averse. That is our most fundamental position and a departure point of this project. Secondly and consequently, it is a film-collage structured along documentary footage with radical poetic means. The place: here (Czech Republic), there (Europe) and everywhere (Cosmos). The topic: the end – understood in the whole range of its meanings. On one side, the end is embodied in second thermodynamic law and, on the other side, the end is a tragedy that only mankind sees: the death. The film is an attempt to catch and let live both the eternity and the ephemeral moment in sound and image. It is a testimony combining sublime and poor, sacral and profane, barbarous and volatile. Selection of in-game professions: presidents, trade unions, free-mason, ship builder, ornithologist, old slavonic historian, designer, communist, priest, writer, prostitute, druid, sheep-killer and others.

Brooklyn-Manhattan
Documentary letter rolling between Brooklyn and Manhattan on eternity, everlasting cycles, performative arts and alternative musical clips.

In Between the Trees
A film about the ten most important words: kingdom (10), foundations (9), victory (8), gratitude (7), reconciliation (6), grace (5), forgiveness (4), wisdom (3), understanding (2), and a shining crown (1). The film is set in the contemporary reality of the Czech kingdom whose head – Václav Havel – just died. One of the protagonists, Zdeněk Neubauer claims that despite the fact we have reached the end of history and are now temporarily suspended in a state of anticipation, a new beginning may actually never come. This kingdom houses two main protagonists, Boris and Johana. At a time of uncertainty, they would like to create new foundations. Each in their own way, they look for an expression of love. They go through the list of important words that are projected onto the screen of our consciousness. In the end they reach the Sun.
