Man From Animazone or Bunny Side Up
Man from Animazone or Bunny Side Up focused on Prit Parn ( born in 1946 ), an animator of international renown, whose works are utterly grotesque, absurd and funnz. Additional, they are critical about the society, piercing the deepest levels of human consciousness. A closer examination of Parn other Estonian animators revealed that Estonia was not sung or faught to freedom - it was liberated via animation!
The Gold Spinners
The Gold Spinners tells the story of the birth, glory and downfall of a peculiar, invisible and mighty business empire. It’s a story of the film studio Eesti Reklaamfilm – the only enterprise producing commercials in the Soviet Union. It might have been born in the head of one man, but during its heyday the studio provided employment for hundreds of people and its clips won over millions. And all this in the ‘socialist empire‘, under the conditions of planned economy and universal lack of everything. With no actual goods to advertise, marketing rules did not apply and even the word advertisement sounded almost as horrible as ‘the CIA‘, ‘the saxophone‘ or ‘Coca-Cola‘ to the thousands of concerned officials.
After graduating from the State Art Institute he started to work in the film studio “Tallinnfilm” as a puppet film director and production designer. At the same time he was active as a freelance scenographer in almost all Estonian and some foreign theatres. Volmer has directed and designed 13 animated films, one short and two full-length feature films, documentaries, two TV-serials, and a couple of TV-shows. He has made about 100 sets for theatrical productions and directed several plays. He has staged and designed about 20 TV-commercials of different kind and technique and about 10 music videos. He has designed books and theatre posters. Has worked as docent of scenography dep. of Estonian Art Academy, 2000 - 2007.
