Between Dictatorship and Democracy
The documentary depicts the life and work of prof. Jaroslav Krejčí (born in 1916), who lived in Czechoslovakia and since 1969 in England. After studying law and economics at the Charles University in Prague, he worked for the state administration until 1954 when he became a political prisoner. In 1969, he returned shortly to academic work. After the Warsaw Pact invasion, he went to exile and settled in England, where he started working at Lancaster University. He was awarded a full professorship in 1976 and a honorary doctorate for literature in 2000. He worked for the departments of European and religious studies and lectured around the world. Since 1990, he has been active in the Czech Republic and was presented the Medal of National Merit by Václav Havel in 1998. He is a member of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic. He also founded the Anna and Jaroslav Krejčí Research Endowment Fund, a private fund supporting young researchers in the field of social sciences.
born 7. 3. 1954 in LitoměřiceHe started off as a musician in the 60s and 70s of the last century ifluenced byBob Dylan, Donovan, Bulat Okudžava and Vladimír Vysocký. He became a professional musician in 1979. He created a number of CDs, then he starts writing theatre plays, which were staged in the Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and Poland. Then he writes scenic music.He had a number of concerts with his band BOWLE between 1989 – 1994 in Austria, Germany, Poland, Russia, the Netherlands, Russia etc and the first CD BOWLE 92 – 93 LIVE is a result of them.In the middle of the 90s he starts with chansons, published a historical novel from anciant Rome and starts making TV films and documentaries - so far he has created about 20 travel docs.In 1995 he made his first arts film about Bulat Okudžava, which is followed by other 12 films - a serie Poets of Europe.In mid 90s he publishes three memoir books and a fairy tales book, respectively.Since 1998 he works exclusively on documentaries and his biggest serie so far has been Legends of folk and country.
