The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.

Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Closer Look

is a new set of activities starting in 2012, designed for next 4 years, which aims to strengthen creative and professional links between documentary professionals in Visegrad region. While the cooperation among V4 filmmakers seems vital for the quality of audiovisual production in the region, it is influenced by several factors:

 

 

• local institutional support and the way the local film acts deal with documentary film
• level of minority co-productions support
• level of self-sufficiency of V4 markets
• level of international potential of V4 documentary projects
• intensity of specific professional links and cooperation

 

Closer Look: TALK
Closer Look has been established to facilitate the advancement of all these factors. Closer Look aims at the representatives of V4 film centers and institutions who can lobby for legal changes in order to encourage more intensive V4 professional cooperation (mixed crews, minority co-productions, etc.). It will produce a printed brochure with comparative analysis of institutional support and film acts in operation within V4 countries. The brochure will serve as a base for Closer Look: TALK, with participants selected from V4 film institutions and producers. It should generate a list of legal adjustments V4 representatives should lobby for, locally, thus benefiting from the practices in neighboring countries.

 

In-depth consultations
For CL, IDF will select 25 projects from V4 countries, their directors and producers will receive in-depth consultations with experts aiming at strengthening their international potential. All, approx. 40 V4 directors and producers will meet together with the aim to encourage minority co-productions; they will also attend meetings with international TVs, distributors, festivals, sales agents and film funds. These players from Europe and North America will be able to acquire carefully developed documentary projects from V4 region.

 

Polish Lesson
In 2012, CL will bring the first of four public seminars (2012-2015) - Polish Lesson - aiming at the recent documentary boom in Poland. While referring to the new Polish film act and the foundation of the Polish Film Institute (PFI), it will bring debates with PFI and Krakow Film Foundation, and case studies, screenings and master classes of notable Polish filmmakers.
