The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Padmanabha Rao – Indian expert in education development, participated in the development of an innovative project involving over 10 million children from 200 000 schools in the poorest parts of the world in the educational process, received a number of awards including the Unesco Prize for his activities / presenting on October 28

Festival Identity Workshop

The second annual Festival Identity Workshop is a professional encounter of film festival organizers. Its objective is to share information and experience as well as to discuss themes that both connect and divide the festivals. The workshop is held during a single day so that the participants can use the following festival days to make new contacts and attend the Jihlava IDFF and East Silver programmes.

The Festival Identity workshop is accompanied by the Best Festival Poster competition exhibiting the festival posters of 2010-2011. The Best Festival Poster Award and the Audience Award will be presented as part of the event.


Reality TV Workshop

Milan Kruml presents a wide range of various uses of documentary methods, introducing the most significant world television programmes of the reality genre. Besides docusoaps, he also presents commented previews from mockumentaries and fiction documentaries.

Vít Klusák presents a popular cooking show (licensed from Kitchen Nightmares). Czech chef Zdeněk Pohlreich, known for his blunt language and critique of Czech cooking, is invited to implement changes at a restaurant. The arrogant master cook spends some time there, gives advice, and in the end gives the restaurant a star.

The fifth annual Media and Documentary seminar represents an opportunity for students of journalism, film studies and other fields of humanities and social sciences to look at documentaries from various perspectives, subject them to analysis and find the right argumentation. The lecturers of the seminar are leading critics and theorists. The international guests of the workshop include Truls Lie, chief editor of the DOX magazine focusing on documentary film, Will Tizard, correspondent of the Variety film magazine and Elena Oroz, chief editor of the Blogs&Docs on-line magazine focusing on non-fiction.
