The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.

Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Adventures in Cross-Media Storytelling

 

Before the Internet and digitisation, the way that stories were told, delivered and shared were restricted by running times, distribution formats and platforms. The impact of new technologies coupled with an audience that has way more control over their media than ever before is impacting on the art and craft and business of documentary storytelling. Just as sound changed the landscape of filmmaking, technology is changing audience behaviour, participation and expectations, presenting documentarians with exciting new opportunities to engage audiences and communities in a variety of new ways. Liz Rosenthal, Founder and CEO of Power to the Pixel will present a diverse range of international case studies to illustrate.

An early advocate and pioneer of cross-media, digital distribution and filmmaking, Liz is a digital film and media expert. She is Founder and CEO of Power the Pixel, a company specialising in advising and training international businesses and content creators to create, finance and distribute stories and engage with audiences across multiple platforms.Liz has advised many international media organisations including the UK Film Council, where she was Digital Strategy Advisor, and is regularly invited to speak at international conferences and film festivals, including Berlin, Cannes, Rotterdam, London, Edinburgh, TEDx transmedia.She was the Programme Director of Digimart, The Global Digital Distribution Summit in Montreal, founder of production company Earthly Delights Films, and set up and ran the UK office for Next Wave Films (a company of the Independent Film Channel) from 1998 to 2002, pioneer in the production, finance and sales of ultra low budget features and digital filmmaking.
