The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

The East European Forum will help you to get financial support for your documentary project! The Doc Launch Presentation will support your documentary films in post-production. Would you prefer one-on-one meetings over public presentations? Apply for the Project Market! In 2012, the East European Forum and the Doc Launch presentation take place in Prague for the first time, as part of the East Doc Platform, our new umbrella industry event organized in association with the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival.

East Doc Platform

In March 2012 in Prague, the Institute of Documentary Film introduces the inaugural East Doc Platform - an umbrella industry event dedicated to supporting East European documentary films in all stages of completion. Organized by IDF at the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, the event follows up on our industry section which we hosted from 2001 in Jihlava. The East Doc Platform will feature our staple events, such as the East European Forum, Doc Launch presentation, Project Market, East Silver's video library with new spring documentary titles, and a diverse slate of other industry events that provide networking opportunities for East European documentary professionals and commissioning editors, distributors, sales agents, fund and festival representatives from across Europe and North America.

 

EAST EUROPEAN FORUM 2012
Focus: funding
Open to: projects in the development and production stage

The East European Forum is Eastern Europe's largest co-production platform for East European filmmakers and leading international commissioning editors, distributors, buyers, and film fund representatives. Filmmakers and independent producers offer their projects for co-production, pre-sale or other forms of financial support. As of 2011, more than 80 documentary films have been made with the aid of the Forum. Since 2001, the Forum has hosted more than 650 filmmakers and producers from Eastern Europe, and over 200 commissioning editors, buyers and festival programmers.

DOC LAUNCH PRESENTATION 2012
Focus: rough cut development, preparation for distribution
Open to: projects in the post-production and rough-cut stage

Doc Launch supports East European documentary films in the production and post-production stages and helps them to make a smooth transition to distribution. Each year, Doc Launch presents 8 - 9 outstanding documentary features that are headed to festivals and cinemas in the following months; during the whole year, it caters to a wide range of upcoming documentary films, providing networking opportunities, consultations, and assistance in drafting distribution strategy.

East European Forum and Doc Launch presentation offer:

  • attendance of some 70 international commissioning editors, buyers, sales agents, distributors, film fund and festival representatives
  • public presentation of projects
  • access to other industry events organized by IDF under the East Doc Platform (East Silver video library, Project Market, industry screenings, co-production days, networking dinners, etc.)

 

 

PROJECT MARKET 2012
Focus: one-on-one networking for projects and films in all stages of completion
Open to: projects in development, production and post-production, and completed films

The Project Market connects all attending East European professionals with commissioning editors, buyers, sales agents, distributors, film fund and festival representatives. The Project Market is available to producers whose project is included in the Doc Launch presentation; selected producers with a completed film, and Doc Launch programme guests - past participants of the East European Forum with projects in the production or post-production stage. The Project Market will also be open to other projects introduced in Prague by the filmmakers and producers.
