Berčík Pavel
A documentary portraying a young woman trying to find and define issues concerning her unstable marriage. Using an expressive style, the film explores extremely intimate areas of married life. Although the issues concern a specific case, the protagonist manages to relate them to aspects found in most marriages, revealing the faults of generally accepted relationship models that lack in mutual respect and tolerance. Lucie's journey through life moved from her career as a model through documentary filmmaking studies and unfinished medical studies to life as a religious person and second-time mother.
Sanctity Growers
The unique group of "The Producers of Sacrament" that was established to support the general development of holiness is quite bizarre. Adam Olha's film is an attempt to enter the movement, to describe the rules that form it, and to identify the concept this group uses to set itself apart from the surrounding world. FAMU, Department of Documentary Film (bachelor degree work)
The Baluty Ghetto
I discovered the Baluty district three years ago, almost by chance. It looks much like in surviving wartime photographs. Today, the devastated houses are inhabited by a highly unusual social group which differs distinctly from the remaining population of Lodz... as if the borders of the ghetto still existed. Our film illustrates human misery and the horror of a landscape touched by horror through the survivors' wartime stories.
Airshaft
An attempt to capture the dead space of an airshaft as the backbone of a living home - the AMU Dormitory at Hradební Street in Prague. FAMU, Department of Documentary Film (3rd year - film poem)
New Life
This film is a story of a big Slovak catholic family, which has been left by the father. Mother Jana, five daughters and one son Adam were suddenly left alone. Adam decided to put up with this huge change in his life in a very strong way, to shoot this film, as the „last man standing“ in the family. This film tells the story of how one man cannot manage seven women, and how seven women can fight for one man. How can he learn from parent’s divorce and how can he teach his sisters to divorce well in the future?
Věra Čáslavská - 68
The film about Věra Čáslavská is an evaluation of her life. With seven gold and four silver Olympic medals, she is the most successful Czechoslovak female athelte as well as the fourth most successful Olympic female athlete in the world. After her breathtaking victory in Mexico City in 1968, she was announced the second most popular woman of the planet after Jacqueline Kennedy. In 1968, she signed the 2000 Words Manifesto. Despite her enormous fame, which she deserved for her incredibly hard work and endurance, she lived a troubled personal life. Her life story reflects the situation in Czech society, both in the communist regime and after 1989. Always actively involved in building a healthy civic society, Čáslavská's life story is truly unique and remarkable.
Into Oblivion
Stalin grasps a pencil in his hand as he prepares to draw a line on a map of the Soviet Union. Where the graphite touches paper, some 80,000 people - almost all of them gulag inmates - will build a railroad in the gruelling conditions of the polar taiga. It is a railway line of almost no strategic importance, built on permafrost and polar marshes, using limited technology and equipment. For four years, they will slave away, succumbing to exhaustion, illness, cruelty, and solitary confinement before, finally, the death of Stalin himself. In just a few weeks, there will be nothing left of their hectic activity except for empty camp barracks, old locomotives, bits of track, embankments, telegraph wires, all left to slowly return to the taiga.
Juraj Janosik is a legendary rebel who became a national hero not just in native Slovakia. Literary works about his legend are abundant, just as feature films, series or even cartoons but never a serious documentary film. This film aims to present credible and comprehensive information about Janosik's life. Javor Adamov, a young musician and folklorist from Zilina, will guide the viewer through the authentic sites, tracing Janosik's steps. Adamov found his own source of historical information – folk songs with rebel themes. These ballads will be scattered throughout the film as short music videos with authentic historical props, offering the viewer a glimpse into scenes from Janosik's life.
