Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

East European Forum

East European Forum is the first meeting of East-European documentary filmmakers and significant European commissioning editors where the filmmakers and their independent producers offer their topics for realization. The Forum is organized by the Institute of Documentary Film in cooperation with International Documentary Film Festival Jihlava.

This year the Forum will host more than 70 documentary professionals from all over Europe. It is the first event that gives East European documentary filmmakers the opportunity to meet Europe's leading commissioning editors. With the founding of the East European Forum, the region of Central Europe has received the first alternative to the existing models of funding that rely only on state funds and local broadcasters. Since its establishment, the Forum has become a prestigious meeting place for film professionals and, since 2001, it has hosted approx. 312 East European filmmakers and producers, 40 TV representatives and tens of international distributors, buyers and festival programmers. Thanks to the Forum, 18 films have been completed since 2001.
