www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

East European Forum 2011: Deadline September 1

Applications for the 2011 East European Forum (October 24 - 31, Jihlava, CZE) are open until September 1, 2011. Directors and producers of 10 selected projects will have the opportunity to pitch their documentary projects to key commissioning editors, distributors and buyers from Europe and North America.

Participants: Approx. 24 filmmakers – 12 producers and 12 directors representing their creative documentary projects. At the East European Forum, 10 - 12 selected projects and another 14 projects from the year-long workshop Ex Oriente Film – also organized by IDF – are included in the pitch sessions.

About East European Forum

The East European Forum is the region's largest meeting of East European documentary filmmakers with Europe's and North America´s leading commissioning editors, distributors, buyers and film fund representatives. Directors and independent producers offer their projects for co-production, pre-sale or other forms of financial support.

Since its foundation in 2001, the Forum has become a prestigious meeting place that has hosted over 600 East European filmmakers and producers, almost 100 commissioning editors and tens of international distributors, buyers and festival programmers. Over 60 documentary films have been completed with the direct support of the East European Forum, with a number of them awarded at prestigious international festivals.

Application Deadline: September 1, 2011

Selection Process: In the first round, members of the selection committee independently read all projects and watch samples of the applicants' previous work. In the second round, members of the selection committee meet and discuss the projects, and once again review the submitted visual material.

Selection Results: September 25 - 30, 2011 - the final list of selected projects will be posted at www.dokweb.net and letters will be sent out to successful applicants.

Participation Fee Deadline: October 7, 2011 - deadline for successful applicants to pay the participation fee (EUR 100 per project + EUR 250 for accommodation and one meal per day)

Forum Workshop: October 24 - 28, 2011 - the Forum workshop is led by Europe's leading documentary film producers, experts and distributors: pitching techniques, lectures, case studies, individual meetings, group sessions.

Doc Presentations: October 29 - 30, 2011 - public presentations in which the director and producer have up to 10 min to pitch their film projects to leading European and North American commissioning editors in order to enroll their aid in co-financing or co-production.

Feedback Round Tables: October 29 - 30, 2011 - after presentations, the participants will discuss their projecs in greater detail at round tables, with several CE's and funders at a time.

Follow-up Session: October 31, 2011 (to be confirmed) - In the follow-up session, tutors comment on the pitching results and offer advice regarding further steps, based on the particular needs of each project. The follow-up session is attended by experts and commissioning editors.
