Marijke Rawie, Managing Director of ExpertDocs, was during the last 17 years Head of Art Documentary at AVRO, 1st public broadcaster in the Netherlands. In 1991 she founded the documentary slot "AVRO Close Up" which became one of the leading international co-producers and co-financers of documentaries in Europe. She started her tv-career in1974. She worked as director and producer of documentaries at various Dutch broadcasters (NOS, VARA, NCRV), before she went to AVRO. Marijke Rawie is involved in several international documentary institutions: Vice President of EBU Documentary Expert Group; Vice President of Advisery Board Discovery Campus Masterschool; Boardmember of the 1st World Congress of Arts Producers; Doc.expert EDN; Doc. expert Eurodoc. She is the founder of ExpertDocs, International Documentary Training & Consultancy, in which she combines the international documentary coproduction and (pitching) training knowledge she has acquired over the years.

A dedicated documentarist since I made my first documentary – now hidden for the public in my cellar - in 1977. In 1979 I graduated with a degree in Film from The University of Copenhagen. Most of the 80’s I worked with distribution and theatrical release of documentaries. Attended script writing at the Danish Film School in 88. Freelance Producer and Production manager up through the 90’s. Organized the film festival ‘Films from the South’ from 1995 – 98. Made a desk-cross-over from 1998-2002, where I worked as Production Adviser at The Danish Film Institute. Attended EAVE 1998/99. Since 2000 I have worked as tutor at a large number over workshops and forums around Europe and in The Middle East. From 2002 - 2008 co-owner and producer at Final Cut Productions in Copenhagen where I have produced a number of international documentaries. Board member of EDN since 2005 –08, the last year as Chairman. In 2009 Film strategic Adviser of The Middle East at International Media Support. Also from 2009 I serve as lead production tutor at Ex Oriente Film Workshop. From 2011 Head of Studies at EDN.

Sean Farnel is currently an unrestricted free agent, specializing in documentary, having recently departed his post as Director of Programming at Hot Docs, North America's largest documentary festival, market and conference. Sean was recruited to this newly created position in November 2005, following six years as a staff programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival. At Hot Docs, Sean was responsible for managing all Festival programming, including film curation and the Industry conference. He also created the popular Doc Soup screening series, as well as the Dog Mogul Award, and managed the Shaw Hot Docs Fund. Sean is a graduate of Cinema Studies from one of Canada’s most respected film schools, Concordia University. Upon graduation he received the Motion Picture Foundation of Canada Award for Most Outstanding Achievement. His occasional blog is RippingReality.com.

Award-winning director/producer Erik Gandini, born and raised in Italy, moved to Sweden at the age of 19. His 1994 debut feature Raja Sarajevo, shot in war-torn Sarajevo with a small hi-8 camera, gained great international acclaim. In 2000, he co-founded production company Atmo with Kristina Aberg and Tarik Saleh.

Jakob Kirstein Høgel heads a talent development scheme (NDS), granting development and production support to documentaries, fiction and video games. NDS has recently supported films such as R (feature, main prize Mumbai and Gothenburg), Applause (feature, 2009, Karlovy Vary, Toronto, Mumbai FF), Out of Love (30 min doc, 2010, Rotterdam, Berlin FF) and Dr. Nakamats (52 min doc, 2009, IDFA). Jakob K. Høgel co-founded and co-owned documentary production company, Cosmo Doc in 2004 and ran it for 3 years. He has produced award winning films, such as “Prostitution behind the Veil” (Emmy nominee 2005) and “Gasolin” (2006, the best grossing Danish documentary ever with 235.000 cinema tickets sold). From 1999 to 2004 he was commissioning editor for Documentaries & Shorts at the Danish Film Institute.

Born in 1970, Janeček is a documentary filmmaker, scriptwriter, critic and lecturer. He is a graduate of Charles University in Prague (film studies) and FAMU (documentary film). His creative interest consist in considering transversal aspects of reality - science, politics, society and thought, he contribute to various papers. For several years curated film programmes in Roxy and Archa Theatre in Prague and historical retrospectives on Karlovy Vary Film Festival. In 2003, co-founded the Centre for Audiovisual Studies, FAMU. Coordinator of FAMU's training programme in Burma. Director, collaborator on the following films: Rodina v poušti (1994), V centru filmu, v teple domova (co-director P. Marek, 1997), Houba (2000), Bitva o život (2000, co-directed by M. Janek and R. Vávra), Máme NATO? (NATO Inside Our Hearts, 2002), Pravidla hry - vymezení prostoru (Rules of the Game 2004), Dějiny Jaroslava Šabaty (History of Jaroslav Šabata, 2008), Dobrodružství Anny Barbory - Mezihra (The Adventure of Anna Barbora - An Interplay, 2008) a Ivetka a hora (Ivetka and the Mountain, 2008, Award for Best Czech Documentary Film, Jihlava IDFF).

Salomé Jashi is a documentary filmmaker based in Georgia. She was born in Soviet Union [1981] and grew up during struggle for the country’s independence followed by civil wars. With first degree in journalism she studied documentary filmmaking at Royal Holloway, University of London, Media Arts Department, MA Documentary by Practice. One of her student films was screened at he National Portrait Gallery as part of the discussion on self-portraiture. Her films are observational discovering tiny details that surprise but also evoke a feeling of some intuitive familiarity. Among other places Salomé’s films have been selected at Leipzig International Film Festival for Documentary and Animated Film [2007], Cinéma du Réel in Paris [2007], One World Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in Prague [2009].

Graduated from Psychology at Comenius University Bratislava, Slovakia. Film Studies at University of Fine Arts FAMU in Prague. From 1999 worked as a production manager and a freelance producer for various production companies in Prague. In 2003 moved to Berlin and soon became Head of Sales Dept. at MDC Int., taking over the marketing strategy, sales and acquisitions in Eastern Europe, Balkan, Russia, Asia and English speaking territories. In 2008 she became the Managing Director of Film Europe, Sales and Development branch of SPI, a key distribution company in Eastern Europe. Has given lectures on film marketing strategies at University of Fine Arts in Prague and Charles University, lectures on marketing and sales strategies for various institutions and training workshops, such as Babylon, European Producers Club, Barrandov Studios, Train East, Screen Leaders. Helps as a program advisor for film festivals in East European region. Acts as an expert for EAVE training, Nipkow Programm.

Denis Vaslin graduated from the department of Slavic Culture & Languages of the Institute of Oriental Languages in Paris in 1994. After five years of working as a distributor and then for a production company in France, he moved to The Netherlands. From 1999 until 2004, he worked as a production coordinator/manager and as a line producer. In 2003, he produced Ineke Smits' documentary Putin's Mama (Silver Wolf Competition IDFA 2003). Denis started Volya Films in 2004 to produce author fiction films, creative documentaries and experimental movies, mainly as international co-productions. Volya Films works with both young and experienced filmmakers. Denis completed the Binger Film Lab in 2004 and is a graduate of the EAVE training program 2006, EURODOC 2007, and the Binger Company! Programme 2010. Denis Vaslin is a member of the European Film Academy and the Documentary Producers Netherlands. He created in 2011 Mandra Films with Lucas Rosant and Eric Mabillon in France.

Commissioning Editor for YLE TV2 Documentaries, Finland since 1998. Executive Producer for Steps For The Future and Another Finland and one of the Series Producers for Why Democracy. He is a board member in Steps International, Steps India and IDFA. In YLE he has commissioned several internationally awarded documentaries like 3 Rooms Of Melancholy by Pirjo Honkasalo, Decent Factory by Thomas Balmes, Gone To The Wind by Gennadi Gorodin, Recepies for Disaster by John Webster, The Journey by Markku Lehmuskallio, Lakshmi and Me by Nishta Jain, Paradise by Elina Hirvonen, In The Shadow Of Holy Book by Arto Halonen, Northern Star by Erkko Lyytinen and Riot On ! by John Hakalax. He has been a partner in several awarded documentaries produced in Asia, Middle-East and Africa. Before YLE he directed several awarded documentaries for Epidem and Musafilm, among them Past is Present, Amal, Inam, Naila, Man from the Shadow , Daughter of a Terrorist, Our Common Future? and Tehri - Two Journeys. Among the publications the most recent is a 2008 published book “Steps By Steps”, written together with Don Edkins.Currently, is off for a year from his post in the Finnish Broadcasting Company being a visiting professor in Tampere University, Finland. At the same time he still acts as an Executive Producer of an internet documentary strand Third Dimension (kolmasulottuvuus.fi).
