www.DOKweb.net is a portal dedicated to East European documentary film. The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

EX ORIENTE FILM: OPEN SESSION

As part of the 1st session of Ex Oriente Film that takes place March 23 – 29, 2009 in Kolín, Czech Republic, the Institute of Documentary Film organizes an open session that includes one-on-one consultations with leading documentary professionals from around the world. Attend lectures hosted by important international filmmakers and don’t miss a unique opportunity to meet them in person and seek advice regarding your documentary project. We also invite audiences to two interesting screenings.

Open Session:

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 – 8:30pm, Hotel Theresia
Screening – My Country, My Country (USA 2006, 90 min) by Laura Poitras, edited by Erez Laufer. The film records an unforgettable journey across the war-ravaged Iraq during several months leading up to the 2005 Iraqi election. Symbolized by fingers in purple ink, the election represented a difficult challenge to all parties involved in the war  debate. The film was nominated for the 2007 Academy Award.

Friday, March 27, 2009 – 9:30am – 1pm, Night Club, Hotel Theresia
Case Study by Lars Barthel: Visualization of Documentary Films. How to find an appropriate visual style? Does each story „have“ its style? How does a documentary cameraman work? How is it to work with different directors? Does visual style depend more on the cinematographer or the director?

 


Lectures, consultations and screenings will be in English. The programme takes place March 23 – 27, 2009 as part of the Ex Oriente Film session in Kolín, Hotel Theresia, Na Petříně 991, 280 02 Kolín. Consultations will be scheduled after mutual agreement.
