ABOUT IDF

THE INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM [IDF] is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European creative documentary film and its general promotion.

IDF was established in 2001 by documentary directors and producers and its programme is therefore geared towards creative professionals.

The IDF programme is designed for filmmakers, independent producers and representatives of Central and East European broadcasters, as well as for festival programmers, journalists and the general public.

IDF cooperates with some of the most prominent European associations and training programmes, commissioning editors and distributors, and enables East European authors to take part in international cooperation.

OUR ACTIVITIES:

1. EAST EUROPEAN FORUM
   An annual documentary pitching forum. The East European Forum is the first meeting of East European documentary filmmakers and major European commissioning editors during which filmmakers and independent producers offer their proposals for production. Partners: EDN, Jihlava IDFF.
2. EX ORIENTE FILM Training Programme
   A year-long professional training programme for East European directors and producers that facilitates the funding of creative documentary films. The programme includes three intensive sessions (March, June and October) and email consultancy under the leadership of experienced tutors, independent producers, commissioning editors and film directors. 3. www.DOKweb.net
   IDF runs an interactive website that supports the exchange of information on Central and East European documentary film. The site is updated daily, edited both in Czech and English, providing a valuable resource for filmmakers, audiences, journalists and film theorists.
4. EAST SILVER DocMarket
   A documentary market for films from Central and Eastern Europe. It consists of a catalogue, online database and a video library. Partner: Jihlava IDFF.
5. PANEL + CATALOGUE OF UPCOMING CZECH DOCUMENTARIES
   A public presentation of soon-to-be-released Czech documentary films. The presentation of selected documentaries comes with a comprehensive catalogue that lists documentaries in different stages of production. Partners: Jihlava IDFF, Czech Film Center.
6. DOCU TALENTS FROM THE EAST - PANEL ON UPCOMING DOCUMENTARIES FROM EASTERN EUROPE
   A public presentation of some of the most remarkable documentary projects from Central and Eastern Europe. Partners: Karlovy Vary IFF, JIhlava IDFF.
7. VIDEO LIBRARY
   The IDF video library offers more than 250 documentaries (VHS and DVD).
