Trabant on the Silk Road

Transtrabant Expedition - crazy two-stroke going to Asia and back, crossing the Karakum and Kyzylkum deserts. Reminiscences of "big expeditions with small cars" made by Czech travelers in the first half of the 20th Century.

In Comparison

Bricks are the resonating fundamentals of society. Bricks are layers of clay that sound, like records just simply too thick. They appear in series, but every brick is slightly different - not just another brick in the wall. They resonate in a way that tells us if they are good enough or not. Bricks form the fundamental sound of our societies, but we haven´t learned to listen to them. Farocki´s film has our eyes and ears consider them in comparison - and not in competition, not as clash of cultures. Farocki shows us various brick production sites in their colours, movements and sounds. Brick burning, brick carrying, brick laying, bricks on bricks, no off-commentary. The film shows us that certain production modes require their own duration and that cultures differentiate around the time of the brick.

Passion according to the Polish Community of Pruchnik

In the small town of Pruchnik, near the remote Bieszczady Mountains in the south-eastern part of Poland, villagers gather every year on Good Friday to "punish" Judas for his betrayal of Jesus. The film explores the thin line between pagan and Christian rites and raises the timely question to what extent anti-semitism finds loopholes in the Roman Catholic tradition.

Cryptogram - The Book of Torments

This is a documentary about the emergence of a painting project and its author Tomislav Petranovic…Through reminiscence the painter has intertwined the theme of torments with the subject of Judaism, evoking the suffering of Jews in Slavonija. The film documents the emergence of an artistic portfolio leading us to sites of already forgotten Jewish locations of the Nova Gradiska region. The Film uncovers the Old Testament hidden code of prophet Zephaniah, and through poetic depiction transcribes a vision of torments and suffering.

Beauty Within Us

The American Jock Sturges is internationally considered one of the most important photographers working in portraiture. His enduring theme is girls from childhood and puberty up to early adulthood. The state of nudity that Jock Sturges photographs is not the nudity of being unclothed. His models are not disrobed; Sturges shows nakedness as a natural state. This is why he predominantly takes photographs where nudity might be called a natural condition: on the nudist beaches of Europe. Jock Sturges spends his summers here, has known many of his models and their families for years, and his photos are born of this intimacy. But although Jock Sturges pursues a classical aesthetics of beauty in his pictures, his work is nonetheless controversial since it touches upon a taboo subject: the erotic aura that children and teenagers sometimes exude. A film about the beauty and the moral values we have within us.

L.A. Unfinished

L.A. has dedicated himself to creating the biggest painting for his retrospective exhibition: huge oil on canvas, 5.0x3.0 m, a parody of old historic paintings on which kings and courtiers were painted throughout previous centuries. The inspiration for his historic painting Lovro Artukovic took from the signing of the Dayton agreement and for models who will participate on his painting he chose his friends, Berlin emigrants. After weeks and weeks of exhausting work L.A. will finish his painting. His models will follow till the last moment - till the opening of the big exhibition at which they will be main "stars" of the program.

Northern Spring

Ten years ago Gintaras worked as a piano teacher. Today he is a lorry driver who plies a route between Lithuania and the far north of Norway. He accepts the spartan conditions with equanimity, without experiencing any sense of deprivation. He has traded life on the road for a warm bed; the din of the motorway is for him a different type of music.

Donation Addiction

A film about people who are so uncompromisingly driven in their quest to do good, that they become a burden to society.

Another Planet

Creative Documentary-Feature, shot on four continents, presents the hidden face of our planet and the general and moral crisis of our world. We can follow the various, irrational stages of defencelessness as the characters in all seven stories, all minors, accept their fate with quasi humility. The appalling everyday life of child labourers, child prostitutes and child soldiers is revealed to us in Congo, Cambodia and Ecuador. Tibor Máthé's powerful imagery and Tibor Szemző's magical music, create a dramatic juxtaposition.
