The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.

Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

VINYL (Tales from the Vienna Underground) is the first feature-length documentary to reveal the interconnected world of experimental, trash & electronic musicians in Vienna, and how the artists in this historically unique space interpret which sounds make music in very different ways. V I N Y L is also partly a love letter to a cultural icon – vinyl records - which have been a part of so many people’s lives for decades, and which persist in the future of music creation & distribution, despite the pervasiveness of digital technology. In this film, vinyl is a metaphor for something we love, even for its imperfections and scratches, and so it is with these musicians’ love-hate relationship to their city. Some things must change, but some things will be important forever.

Rudolf is 13years old boy obsessed with filmmaking. As a matter of fact, it is the only thing he is really fond of. His main interest is horror films, and he uses a special technique to make them - drawing each shot on long strips of paper. He shows the films on a slide projector with a special live soundtrack. Rudolf´s story illustrates the conflict between the imaginary world of a boy and the society surrounding him, where everybody expect him to live according to certain rules and dogmas. How does he cope with it? The biggest surprise comes when the local priest asks Rudolf to make a film to be played during the service.

Having been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and suffered two strokes, Ms. Oldriska lives with her dog in an apartement with a lovely view of Brno. Using a simple digital camera she records a few days of her life – an everyday struggle with body and brain, a visit by her friend and son, the reconstruction of her apartment. With no previous experience filming, she uses the camera in a very spontaneous way, sometimes fighting with the technical limits of the device, sometimes even forgetting about the shooting itself. The film deals with ageing, pain, solitude, and also love, for people and animals, in a very raw and non-aestheticized manner.

Poland has always been a multicultural country. Different nations – their cultures, religions and languages, built a colourful reality here. World War II and the communist system destroyed this world considerably. Since 1989, we have been slowly coming back to those interesting dimensions and colours created by other nations in our country. We want to present them in a selected area enclosed by a few streets of Warsaw’s Praga. Thanks to the people who live here, one can get to know the tolerant and open Europe. A small community created by people from different countries was born here. Throughout the years, its members became local patriots, attached to their neighbourhood and its atmosphere. It is a story about a micro-world in Poland, where all cultures and religions coexist, building a better world. Our dream is for it to be possible everywhere, if it is possible here. Hence the film.

Alisa and Verica are best friends since childhood, but when faced with the most important decision for Romani women of marriage and sexual maturation they make entirely different decisions. Love at last is a docu-fiction love story about two young women and their coming of age in a heavily tabooed Roma community in southern Serbia. Love at Last is a boundary blurring documentary-fiction experiment where "actors" are reenacting their own personal stories with in a fiction film structure. Moreover the film's plot is mostly based on true stories collected from the community. Love At Last was shot on authentic locations with an entirely Roma non-actor youths cast.

A mosaic-like story about the 47th October Salon, the largest contemporary art exhibition held in Serbia, as well as all the seemingly invisible aspects of such an apparently calm event. Envisioned by Europe's heavy weight German curator Rene Block as his last statement, the machinery of workers, beaurocrats and world famous artist are there to really make the exhibition happen. When a camera is pointed toward such an event in present day post-war transitional and timid Serbia, a humorous, witty and insightful story is told portraying artistic pursuit as an attempt to overcome the confusions of human condition. Alice sets off on an unusual voyage – a trip on the sailing ship “Zawisza Czarny”. Full of doubts and anxiety about the wisdom of her decision, she slowly starts to see the value of the situation. This is not just a trip. It is hard work, adventure, but most of all, the chance for her to see her life from a different perspective... The main character of this 25' long documentary, is one of the blind people who are half of the crew of the ship. Until the last minute of the film we may doubt if she is really blind, as she behaves as if she could see. She's even not wearing dark glasses. We may observe her changing, sailing from Holland to Poland, across the North sea and the Baltic sea.
