The news section provides up-to-date information on upcoming and just completed films, interviews with filmmakers and other documentary professionals, in-depth articles exploring the state of documentary filmmaking in various parts of the region, as well as insightful texts on current trends, funding, etc. The portal also boasts the largest published databases of completed and upcoming documentary films from Eastern Europe, an industry directory, as well as trailers and original video content. www.DOKweb.net is IDF´s key online project that provides comprehensive details on all IDF´s activities and links them with general information service.
Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Three Polish families, all sharing the same communist believes, built three summer houses together in the village of Dluzek in early the 60's.Over the time they have been meeting there regularly eventually bringing in new generations. As a result of events of March 1968 in Poland, some of them now come to meet their former summer house neighbors and friends from exile.

Long Distance Love

Kyrgyzstan today: Just married Alisher (18y) has to leave his pregnant wife Dildora (17y) to work in Russia, 3.500 km from home. XOLISILE is one of the many young football players in the townships, having the dream of once becoming a professional player. NANA, a single parent, has just invested lot of money to open a bed & breakfast in the township and is looking for tourists to arrive. BILL is the owner of a luxury private game reserve and lodge. Both, Nana and Bill, see tourism as a profitable business, especially in the course of 2010 - but their take on the idea is very different… A film about spirit, passion and power of South Africa. They have learned all they are good at from films and TV or from those, who have lived in USA for some time. We have chosen a group of cowboys and we took them to one of the working ranches in Arizona in the summer of 2009. What will a group of friends and at the same time competitors do while on a long journey in their votive land? Who will still be wearing a wide hat after their return from America?

Wolf's Island. A Year Long Trip

Hunting Bears

The idea of the film is to follow several artists who are involved in graffiti art, all around the world (US, UK, France) to show their aims and hopes, their problems, obstacles they face when doing their art, as sometimes they might even end up in jail. Through their explanations of how the art works, we would like to form some sort of visual lexicon of the art that is very present but still very marginalized.
