Waiting Room for Adulthood

Kari is a notorious troublemaker who has already had problems with the law. He likes graffiti the most. Petr doesn’t get along with his family and communicates through rap. Michal never goes out without his skateboard. Jakub is fine, but often he had no idea where to go after school. Not long ago these youths had nothing to do in their spare time. But then they started to go to the low-threshold club for children and teenagers. This is a documentary, filmed by the clients of the low-threshold clubs, who received cameras and filmed their daily routine at home, on the street, at school and at these very clubs. The main endeavor of its creators was to capture the authentic atmosphere of adolescent life, and to record how teenagers spend their free time.

Odessa

Florin Iepan embarks on a process to reveal the largest mass execution perpetrated by an ally of Nazi Germany in Odessa (now Ukraine) which should lead to a public debate about Romania’s fascist past and conclude with an official reaction on behalf of the Romanian people. At first hand, this seems to be an impossible mission. In a story full of spectacular turn of events, with the director in front of the camera, we discover his weaknesses, his doubts, the self-irony, the ups and downs of his campaign. Unorthodox measures are employed in order to put the topic on the public agenda. During four years of conferences, news coverage, TV programmes and internet commentaries, Florin Iepan managed to attract hostility and hatred from thousands of Romanians and from public figures known for their anti-Semitic and nationalist opinions. At the same time he is encouraged by other fellow Romanians who understand that if we don’t act now, when the country faces an economic crisis and a weak democracy, history can repeat itself.

Midnight

An essay on the sources of light, the meaning of darkness and light pollution, with several layers of interwoven meaning. In one of them, the author describes her experiences during an experiment in which she was shut up in total darkness. Another layer of the film describes the activity of "darkers" who interrupt electricity supplies and then have fun recording the spectacular results of their "ecoattacks." This polemical collage also points out how terribly dependent humans are on electricity, and how much of it they waste. One of the most interesting passages in this imaginative mosaic on the crisis of current civilisation is a meditation by Václav Bartuška on the limits of progress.
