Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

The Art of Documentary Filmmaking Stage Two

Following on from previous trainings mounted in 2005 and 2006, the four-week training “The Art of Documentary Filmmaking Stage Two” provides participants from previous Yangon Film School courses with an opportunity to gain more detailed knowledge of various aspects of documentary filmmaking including Cinematography, Sound Design, Directing, Screenwriting, and Editing. Designed by British documentary director and producer Lindsey Merrison, the training programme is co-organized by the Institute of Documentary Film.

Participants will be invited to specialise in one or two of these aspects of documentary during the training. In addition to following a particular course of study and tuition for their chosen specialisation, taught by six experienced tutors from Europe and Australia, participants will work with members from other courses on the research and production of one of four creative documentaries of approximately 15 minutes, inspired by the topic of ‘Children and Young People in Myanmar’. Productions are to be filmed and edited as far as possible during the training’s four-week duration. Each stage of the production of these films – from research and identification of subjects, creation of a written treatment and filming to editing – will be closely monitored by tutors and mentors, who will be at hand to advise and assist.
