HBO Czech Republic, as well as other HBO branches in Eastern European countries has steered more of its focus in recent years on production of creative documentary films. Many of the HBO docs met with the international success, such as the Romanian Emmy wining doc The World According to Ion B. (dir. Alexander Nanau), or Czech Heaven Hell by David Calek, which held itsinternational premiere at SXSW – South by Southwest in Austin, Texas. The first HBO call for new projects in 2008, which resulted in several feature-length documentary films, already met with huge interest of the Czech and Slovak documentary filmmakers and this tendency appeared also in 2011.
