Institute of Documentary Film’s Activities
Founded in 2001, the INSTITUTE OF DOCUMENTARY FILM (IDF) is a non-profit training and networking centre based in Prague, Czech Republic, focused on the support of East European documentary films and their wider promotion. Our activities support filmmakers through all stages of completion – development, funding, production, post-production, and distribution. We aim at individual filmmakers (tailored consultations), groups of carefully selected professionals with projects or films (Ex Oriente Film, East European Forum, East Silver, Doc Launch, etc.), broader professional community (East Doc Platform), as well as the general public (portal www.DOKweb.net). We closely work with key int. festivals, broadcasters, distributors, sales agents, markets, or training initiatives and serve as the GATEWAY TO EAST EUROPEAN DOCUMENTARY FILM.

Other activities

The seminar is designed for TV producers and dramaturges from Central and Eastern Europe.

Dates: 13th - 14th September 2003
Length: 2 days / 2 Lectures
Participants: 10 television professionals from the new EU countries
Lectures: Bert Jansens /Humanist Broadcasting Foundation, The Netherlands/
Hans Robert Eisenhauer /head of "Theme" program - ARTE Strasbourg, France/
Place: Czech Television Conference Room, Kavci hory 1700, Praha 4, Czech Republic
The official partner and one of the organisers is Czech Television

It is focused on financing of solitary documentaries within an international co-production that allows production of demanding projects financed from multiple sources and on cooperation of broadcasters with independent producers. Lecturers will acquaint the participants with the role of commissioning editors in Western European public TV stations, processes of topics selection, joint financing and broadcasting rights sharing among the producers. Also the system of the Topics market will be introduced, which significantly contributed to the fact that broadcasters overcame their suspicions towards seemingly complicated co-production projects.

Another goal of the seminar is to establish the suspended contacts within the region and discussions on the possibilities of cooperation.

The seminar will be held in English.
