FILM OF THE WEEK: FORGOTTEN TRANSPORTS TO POLAND

The Czech documentary film Forgotten Transports to Poland by Lukáš Přibyl completes the director's unique series of four 90-minute films that create a multilayered portrait of life and survival in the Second World War. Instead of using commentary, rehashed stock footage or a few well-known facts, the film relies on personal accounts of witnesses and survivors, backed up by meticulously researched photos and other archive material.

RABBIT ENJOYS OSCAR NIGHT

Although Rabbit a la Berlin by director Bartek Konopka and producer Anna Wydra stopped short of winning the Academy Award in the Documentary Short Subject category, the Oscar night was a high point in the stunning, five-year adventure that started at the 2005 Ex Oriente Film workshop, and continued through the Documentary Campus, Hot Docs or IDA's DocuWeeks. The groundbreaking success of the Polish-German co-production is bound to inspire and encourage other East European documentary films to always aim high.
