One of the main pedagogical goals of the Ex Oriente Film program is to create an environment where professionals from the documentary sector can meet, network and exchange knowledge and experience around projects that are developed by the participants. Director/producer teams are challenged to develop innovative projects and open their horizons to different forms of international collaboration.
More than 70% of films developed at the Ex Oriente Film workshops are actually produced and have gone on to travel and win awards at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Hot Docs, DOK Leipzig, Toronto International Film Festival, Visions du réel , Locarno IFF and IFF Karlovy Vary.

More than 350 participants have attended the Ex Oriente Film. More than two-thirds of all projects that have entered the workshop since its first edition in 2003 have been completed or are in a shooting stage.
