The problem with the conception and bearing of a child is an increasingly topical issue in the Czech Republic. Its typical representatives are future parents, who tend to be an older, economically strong couple who has everything - a career, housing, car, money. They are trying to have a child as well, but to no avail. On the other hand, our country is full of young women who don’t have any problems with conception and pregnancy. Surrogate mothers are mostly single mothers who have already had their child, and they solve their grim economic situation by renting out their uterus. Finally, there are the young men who are improving their financial situation by donating their genetic information. So, according to the motto “what is not forbidden is allowed”, more and more children here in the Czech Republic are being born to mothers who are serving only as a sort of incubator for the genetic material of other couples. Against the backdrop of five stories, we are trying to map out the current situation and answer the emerging questions. How much can nature be deceived? What sacrifices do we make for this deception of nature? Can a uterus or sperm be traded as if on a market? Is it only about selling or renting a part of our body, or do we lose a piece of our soul with such a “trade” as well?
