Synopsis
For 20 years, Marta Kubišová endured with dignity in opposition to the communist regime. The tree-time winner of the Golden Nightingale Awards (1966, 1968 and 1969) was shot down at the height of her professional career by the Russian tanks that had occupied Czechoslovakia. Following the Soviet occupation in 1968, her dramatic personal life became intertwined with the political tragedy of our entire nation and with the activities of the unbowed citiziens of Charter 77. The film looks at Marta's first and second singing career, her private life, her civic engagement, and the history of Czechoslovakia in the second half of the 20th century.
