Jan Gebert graduated in History and Latin American studies at Charles University in Prague. He also studied in Spain, the USA and Mexico, and works as both a journalist and filmmaker. In 2012, his film, Stone Games, premiered at the Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival, receiving the Special Jury Prize. His first feature documentary film When the War Comes premiered at the 2018 Berlinale as the opening film of the Panorama Documentary section, and presented at many international festivals, such as IDFA, Visions du Reél, Sheffield Docfest and the Sarajevo Film Festival. He also is the 2018 winner of the Czech Film-Critics Award for best Czech documentary.
